Quilts are at the Library for the month of March

The Lavender Mountain Quilt Guild has transformed the Sarah Hightower Regional Library in Rome, GA into a colorful display of many quilts. The guild has been working hard on these quilts all year. Included in the collection is a quilt that is being donated to the Etowah Senior Center for a raffle. This particular quilt is located beside the clock on the balcony. There is also a variety of art quilts created by guild member in response to our annual challenge. Be sure to go upstairs and read the labels on each quilt that will give you lots of information about the creators and their process.

Preparations for March Show

Preparations are under way for our annual quilt show at the Rome/Floyd County Library. Quilts will be on display for the entire month of March.

Quilts on Display at Floyd Medical Center

From November 30th to January 31st there is a display of quilts at the Floyd Medical Center - across from the gift shop. Many are on loan from our guild.

ANNUAL QUILT SHOW
The LMQG’s Annual quilt show, a non-juried show held during
the month of March at the Rome’s Sara Hightower Library, is the highlight of our year. We display new quilts made by our
members, including large quilts, wall hangings and children’s
quilts. Included also in the show are specialty pieces, such as
clothing, pillows, crazy quilts, stuffed toys using old and new
quilts, miniatures and heirloom quilts.

MEETINGS
Would you like to learn, or become a better quilter bylearning tips and techniques from more experienced quilters?LMQG hosts evening meetings and Wednesday morning “Stitch In’s” in members’ homes and at several locations in Rome. There are two monthly evening meetings held in Rome at the Kingston Senior Center. The Wednesday morning groups are The Society of Stitchers and The Thread Hot Mamas. We encourage our members to “Sew and Tell” their work at our meetings. We share quilting tips, our current projects, good food and friendship every Wednesday and the first and third evenings of each month. Each quilter shares her work with others who value and appreciate it.

REFERENCE MATERIALS
We maintain a library at the Senior Center for reference, technical assistance and inspiration. We also contributebooks to Rome’s Sara Hightower Regional Library.

We share new skills and ideas; have demonstrations on particular innovations and techniques; and provide a monthly newsletter with chat, reports, trips, quilt articles and a calendar of quilting opportunities.

WORKSHOPS
We bring in regional and national quilt teachers who present
workshops on topics of interest. As members of the Georgia Quilt Council, we participate in s t a t e w i d e c o n v e n t i o n s , symposiums, and other events where we can learn and share ideas with other quilters.
